Newark is a small town in the far southeastern corner of Wise County near the Tarrant county line, incorporated in 1951 with under about 300 residents; lots are rural in scale on rolling terrain, surrounded by unincorporated ranchland and Barnett Shale gas activity.
This is Cross Timbers ground — sandier loam sitting on clay. It digs more kindly than the black prairie further east, but the sand drains onto clay that does not, so grading and drainage get solved before a single stone is set.
