Italy is a small Ellis County town on I-35E south of Waxahachie that grew as a cotton and railroad stop, and most of its lots are either old townsite parcels or surrounding farm acreage rather than modern subdivisions. The Superconducting Super Collider tunnel works of the late 1980s were dug in this part of Ellis County before the project was cancelled in 1993.
This is Blackland Prairie ground — deep, dark clay that swells in a wet spring and shrinks hard by August. It is the reason we engineer the pool shell for movement and set control joints in the flatwork on purpose rather than wherever the pour ends.
