Before You Commit to Doors

  • Check the frame, not just the door. Rot, movement and a worn threshold are common on older openings, and a new door fitted to a bad frame will not seal.
  • Match the type to the room. A slider saves the floor space a hinged door needs; hinged doors give a wider clear opening and seal harder when closed.
  • Think about security and weather. Glass, locks and a storm door in front all change how the opening performs, and they are cheaper to decide now than to retrofit.
