What do you get with Longhorn’s Sliding Patio Glass Doors?

Sliders suit patios where furniture sits close to the door, or where the opening faces a pool or deck and a swinging panel would be in the way. You get one wide pane of glass and a panel that moves sideways, out of everyone’s path.

A slider versus a hinged French door is the main decision on a patio opening. The slider keeps the room free of swing space and gives you a big pane of glass. The hinged door gives a wider clear opening when both panels are open and a more traditional look. We’ll walk the room with you and show you where furniture goes with each.

  • No swing space needed inside or out
  • Large glass area brings light into the room
  • Smooth-running track and modern locking hardware

The details

How are Sliding Patio Glass Doors installed, priced and cared for?

Most slider complaints come from the track. Dirt, a worn roller or a frame pulled out of square by foundation movement makes the door drag. A new door on a level, well-set track glides with a finger.

A sliding door install lives or dies on the sill. We remove the old panels and frame, check the subfloor under the track for rot (water that gets past a worn slider usually sits there), set a sill pan, then level the new frame along its full length so the rollers run true. Only then do the panels go in and the rollers and lock get adjusted. A frame that is even slightly out of level is the one that starts to drag within a year.

Slider pricing follows the width and number of panels, glass options, frame material and color, and the handle and lock set. Wider openings and extra panels cost more, and if the subfloor under the old track has rotted, that repair is priced separately.

Sliding Patio Glass Doors: common questions

Sliding if floor space is tight, since nothing swings into the room. Hinged for a wider clear opening and a more traditional look. Both seal better than a tired original.

Whatever the opening needs. We set doors square and seal them properly, which is most of what makes a door close cleanly for years.

Vacuum the track regularly, keep it free of grit, and wipe the weatherstrip. If it starts to drag, call us before forcing it; it is usually a roller or an adjustment.

A big pane of glass facing the afternoon sun is always going to take heat. Better glass options and a tight seal help, and a patio cover or shade on that side helps more. We’ll talk through both.

Often, if the opening is the right size. We check the framing and header first, and we’ll tell you if the opening needs changes.

Before You Commit to Sliding Patio Glass Doors

  • Choose which panel slides. The moving panel should open toward where people walk, whether that is the grill, the table or the pool gate, not into a corner.
  • Look at the track as closely as the glass. A level, well-sealed track keeps a slider gliding and the water out, and a low threshold matters if you step over it carrying a tray.
  • Plan for sun and screens together. A large pane facing west brings in heat as well as light, so the glass, a screen and any cover outside are worth deciding as one.
How it runs

How does a sliding patio door project run?

  1. 1

    A free measure and quote

We measure the opening, check the frame and threshold for rot or movement, and price the door, hardware and trim as one job.

  2. 2

    Ordered to the opening

The door is built to the measurements, so the fit is square and the weatherstrip actually seals rather than being forced to close.

  3. 3

    Framing done properly

Where the frame or sill needs repair, it is repaired before the door goes in. A good door on a bad frame is a callback waiting to happen.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and warranty

We check the swing, latch and lock with you, adjust anything that needs it, and leave the manufacturer and installation warranties.

  • In-house crews. The people who quote the job are the people who stand behind it.
  • Permits and HOA handled. We draw the job, file the permit with your city and prepare what most HOAs ask for.
